The Power of Business Storytelling: Make Your Brand Memorable

Published by

Can we make a confession?

We don’t really love reading business books.

You’d never know it, looking at our library. We’ve read way more than we care to count. We’ve studied every effective habit, how to lean in, make sure the color of our parachutes go from good to great within a 4 hour workweek, and all the rest. But we don’t remember much specifically about most of those books, and any quote that references them would likely go whiffing right over our heads.

Except for two specific books.

One focused on employee engagement, productivity, and overall workplace culture. The other addressed combining three distinct methodologies for improving business processes and enhancing efficiency.

Sounds like pretty riveting stuff, right?

We admit the topics aren’t what keep bringing those books back for us, years after we read them. It’s just because they both chose to use a narrative format. Unlike the dry textbooks around them, they told stories, and those stories kept relating to new events we were experiencing.

Your Brain Is Wired for Storytelling

Cognitive psychologists believe the brain operates as a ‘pattern-seeking’ device. It makes connections and generates analogies to speed up its processing times for tasks like perception, memory, learning, solving problems, and making decisions.

If that theory of mind holds, then consider that every day customers are out there creating mental frameworks that they use to file away the stories they hear and their own experiences and perceptions about businesses and brands like yours. Broken website? In the file. Great review online? In the file.

Make Your Business Easier to Remember

By telling your business’s story, you make it easier for your customer not only to remember you, but also to learn about what you have to offer, how you can help them, and why they should consider buying from you or working with you — all things you want and need in that file. By being authentic and compelling with your story, as well, you build enduring relationships that can reverberate years later with them.

So let us ask you something… What is your story right now? Are the right people listening?

If you could use some help crafting your story and getting it out there, Journey Momentum can help!

Make it a great week online, everyone!
